Mikidra Lyons

When Mikidra found Goodwill Industries through her local Job Connection Career Center, she was shy and often found herself overwhelmed by situations she couldn’t control. Her time with the AbilityOne program and the training she’s received through Goodwill Industries has brought her out of her shell and given her the confidence to shine personally and professionally.

It’s more than an established training program that gives individuals like Mikidra a hand up; it’s the careful attention of her project leads and managers who work diligently to build confidence to allow abilities to shine through.

“When Mikidra came to Good Vocations in August 2016, she was shy around her peers,” said Project Manager Patrick Ross. “Back then, she was afraid of not completing a task correctly. If she felt she let herself down, she would just shut down.” “

Mikidra’s fear meant she could only tackle one set of directions at a time, yet her supervisor saw great potential in her. Soon she was finishing her tasks, and then independently moving on to other areas that needed her attention, without being asked.

Mikidra has become a dependable, dedicated and hard-working employee, and now she’s confidently helping new employees learn their jobs.

Mikidra’s Words of Self-Encouragement:

I’ll try to get it right the first time. But if I miss something, tell me, and I’ll correct it.
