Wilbert learned about Good Vocations by attending seminars hosted by Goodwill and soon began his journey as a custodian. He was young, and full of jokes, yet had the ambition to do more.
“For over a decade, I’ve watched Wilbert grow as an individual, getting promoted to supervisor and then to Special Project Manager,” said Chris Finley, Goodwill’s Senior Director of Contract Services. “He now is not only responsible for half of the main base custodial contract, but he also has developed himself to supervise people with disabilities, helping them reach their full potential.”
Team members appreciate Wilbert’s leadership style which encourages collaboration and teamwork.
Wilbert’s work ethic has been described as exceptional, ensuring every job is performed within the quoted price. He approaches every task with enthusiasm and always goes the extra mile. Just ask Colonel Amanda Okeson, Senior Materiel Leader, C-17 Division of Robins Air Force Base, who celebrated Wilbert’s professionalism, attention to detail, hard work and proactive nature in a letter to his supervisor:
Mr. Johnson was called to building 660 to unlock a door allowing easier access for the delivery of new furniture. The furniture company sent only one person to unload and set up.
Without being asked, Mr. Johnson immediately started helping unload and was instrumental in setting up the furniture as well. Again, without being asked, he did not hesitate to help dispose of all shipping materials.
Wilbert has grown over the years in his level of dedication and the pride he takes in his work, but he hasn’t lost his ability to have fun and tell a joke.
“It’s not just his work that makes Wilbert stand out; he also has a great sense of humor which brings a smile to everyone’s face,” said Chris. “He still can be a very funny, entertaining individual, but he now understands when and where it’s appropriate. Wilbert is truly an essential part of our team, and we are lucky to have him.”
